Dredging being a specialized activity within the Quay 16 Container Terminal Extension Works at Port of Beirut, the main contractor Pihl-Hourie, which is a consortium of a Danish company and a Lebanese company, has commissioned North and South to carry on the dredging works up to -18 m in the basin behind the new Quay 16.
Due to the presence of a combination of sand, clay and loose rock material in the basin, North and South mobilized its bucket dredger “Jeita” for the job supported by its twin Split Barges “Al Arz 1” and “Al Arz 2” and Tug Boat “Sour”. The dredging of the 400,000 m3 of mixed material went smoothly with disposal location at around 4 km from the port basin. The works were completed in 12 months as per schedule to the satisfaction of the Client and the Main Contractor.
